A young black cat showed up in our yard during the early summer of 2004, skittish around us but lonely for feline companionship. Guess she came to the right place. She would skirt the edges of the yard, crying mournfully but refusing to come to us. Eventually we figured out that she was coming by to see our cats--not us--visiting with them through the screen door or the wire of the cat runs.
When the weather cooled, we cautiously invited her inside. Although we still haven’t been able to pet her, she enjoys hanging out with the other cats, even sleeping on the bed—-as long as we keep our hands to ourselves. I named her "Star" for the veterinarians' records, but around the house, she's mostly known as "Skinny". |
