Boo-Boo landed at the animal shelter, along with nine other cats, when her family broke up and the animals were discarded. She was on borrowed time when I brought her home from the Shelter--the day she and her sisters were supposed to make that one-way trip to the vet clinic. There was something about her big green eyes, the way she'd always made eye-contact with me when I walked into the cat house. A rapport? I guess so. I had no idea how old she was but she had had an interesting life--born in Texas, lived in South Korea for a while before circumstances landed her at the Homer, Alaska Animal Shelter with the rest of the pets from her household. Someone cared enough about her to haul her half-way around the world--only to desert her here. That she came from a disruptive, violent household became apparent from her innate shyness. Once we brought her home, she lived in the top of our bedroom closet for two-and-a-half years. Once she felt comfortable enough to venture out in the house, she moved on to join the shop cats, finding her security in their quiet routine. Her big green eyes watched the world with more serenity, but the hard life she left behind made her timid to the end of her days. |
